I Wrote A Book… Now What?

Yep. So as you may know, I wrote a book and last month it was released. Yes, The Last Dragon Rider is now out there in the world, (hopefully being read by real live people such as yourselves).

So now the question is what comes next?

I spent a lot of time and effort into the launch of said book, not to mention the countless long hours and caffeinated beverages I poured into writing the thing in the first place. It really is a surreal feeling to have something you have worked so hard on for long to actually come to fruition.

I have to say, when I was a kid and teenager writing up stories for fun, this never seemed like something that I would actually do in real life. So happy I decided to actually finally take myself seriously on the writing front.

But as I said, I put a lot of time into the release (which I think went very well) but once the book came out I was left with the question of what now?

I think there is a very fine like between advertising my book through my social media accounts and flooding my feed? Finding the right balance between the two. What is that balance? Once a week? Twice? Every other day?

I have no idea!

I just know that I don’t what to bombard my followers and potential readers with “buy my book” links all the time. I don’t want to be that person, I really don’t, because honestly, it’s not the whole reason I decided to write. I started to write because I had stories that I wanted to tell, and frankly I NEED to write. I actually get a bit twitchy if I haven’t written for a while. I find it is actually rather a good outlet for my anxiety.

But I would like to perhaps one day reach a point where I could write professionally at least part time. In order to do that, I kinda need to figure this marketing thing out.

And write more books obviously.

I am working on getting a couple of promotional meme’s made up, something I can schedule to post when I’m as work or sleeping. But other than that, I’m still wading through the murky waters that it book marketing.

They say the best form of marketing is to get more books out there, which is what I am currently trying to do while I figure the rest out. Phoenix Rising is coming along, although it is SUPER rough and utter trash right now, but the bones are there and I’m partway through the back half with potentially only 5-6 chapters left to go before I finish the first draft. Maybe, we will see. I’m not making any promises just yet.

So for now, the next step is to simply keep writing I guess and figure out the rest of it along the way.

Half the fun is in the journey right?
